Coronavirus Update 18th March – 18:50

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Thank you for your on going support and cooperation in the current Corona Virus crisis. It is much appreciated by the staff team and all members of our community. I appreciate this is a worrying time for all.

Today we have taken work and activity boxes to students in our Animus family group and we have prepared detailed packs for learning for all year groups and need groups.

The Secretary of State for Education and Prime Minister have just made announcements in relation to the opening of schools from Friday. While the whole of my staff team are committed to supporting the national effort it seems that at this point the Department for Education has not released in detail how special schools will need to operate.

At this point the arrangements for college for the rest of the week are:

Thursday 19th March:

Only the following students should be in:

  • KS4 – Y10 and Y11 (10GF, 10EA, 11LL and 11RM) ,
  • 6th Form and Koa Sixth Form (6VM, 6EF, 6KP, 6CN, 6AG)
  • Koa

At the end of the day these students will be sent home with home learning packs, in case they need to do work at home. Other students should not be in college.

Friday 20th March

Only the following students should be in:

  • KS3 – Y7, Y8 and Y9 (7LE, 7JV, 7KD, 8PS, 8AW, 8SS, 9PH, 9JS, 9CR, 9SG)
  • Koa

At the end of the day these students will be sent home with home learning packs, in case they need to do work at home. Other students should not be in college.

I have a number of staff who are self isolating and a larger group of staff who have underlying health conditions and who therefore need to practice some form of social distancing. This means I am far from staffed to enable all students to be in college.

At all stages my primary concern is for the well being and safeguarding of students and staff.

I, along with my other headteacher colleagues within the Thrive Federation (Palatine, Oak Grove College, Herons Dale and Cornfield) will work together with the local authority to understand the detail of the government’s plan as this information is provided.

Thank you for your support. I will be available to take telephone calls from families from 9am until 10 30am on Thursday morning for anyone who wishes to discuss this.

Yours sincerely

Phillip Potter
