Dear Parents/ Carers,

This week is national careers week and has enabled students to focus on their next steps, aims for the future and understanding those who help and support us. All students in year 10 and 11 have been having careers interviews and we have increased the number of employers visiting our lessons and providing opportunities for students. This is an area we want to develop further so if you can help with this please contact

One role we have been very pleased to see in college is the schools link police officer, PC Olivia Crane. She has become a regular visitor to college, taking part in PD lessons, talking to students about her job and supporting those with social media issues. It is lovely to see students talking to her in the playground at break.

World Book Day was a great success with staff and students focused on the wonders of reading, communication and a love of books. We have invested heavily in more books, book corners and are developing a new library. We have also changed our approach to phonics in some classes to make this more explicit. Remember students are never too old to read or be
read to.

Our school nurse, Sally, has recently sent out care plans for families to add to/ check/ sign and return. If you have one of these that still needs returning please do that as soon as
possible otherwise it leaves the college and the nursing service in an awkward limbo.

Next week there is more planned action from the NEU. My understanding is that the professional associations have not had a serious offer from the Secretary of State and she
has issued the spending plan for April onwards and the pay awards and has stated that the government is expecting these to be fully funded from existing budgets. If anyone sees a magic money tree please do let me know!

Thank you to all the families, colleagues and community members who turned up for the annual friends of Oak Grove College meeting. The work this team does is so important to
raise money and provide resources for the college over the last year they have purchased the following: Paid for hoodies for leavers

Paid for team building trips
Paid for some new lockers
Paid for playground games
Paid for a sensory trolley
Supported the Magic Breakfast roll out

Please do get involved if you can and email if you can help.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Yours sincerely,

Phillip Potter
