Dear Parents/ Carers,

As you will be aware from the media the NEU (National Education Union) has voted to exercise their legal right to strike having undertaken a ballot of all their members. The NEU is the largest professional association for teachers and I understand that at least 30 of my teachers are members of this union. This is most of the teacher workforce at Oak Grove College.

The dates we have been informed of potential industrial action that could impact on Oak Grove College are:

  1. Wednesday 1st February 2023
  2. Thursday 2nd March 2023
  3. Wednesday 15th March 2023
  4. Thursday 16th March 2023

This strike action will have an impact on the service that we provide on those days and there are also potentially significant knock on effects for staff who have young children in school and who need to be able to look after them (this specifically, but not exclusively, impacts the support staff team).

Families who work as key workers (e.g. clinical staff, emergency services, care staff) who would normally be at work on one of those days, should inform me directly as soon as possible as we would seek to give preference to those students being in college on that day, in accordance with the DfE guidance

I will write to you with more detail as soon as possible.

If you have any questions about this letter or the proposed actions or you are a key worker please email me directly at head@oakgrovecollege.org.uk

Thank you for your ongoing support, cooperation and understanding

Yours sincerely,

Phillip Potter

Headteacher
