Oak Grove College is a community generic special school providing special education for 260 students with learning difficulties from Year 7 to Year 14. We are immensely proud of our college and our community.  We are committed to providing the very best for young people while they are with us, helping them to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and aspiration to succeed throughout their lives.  We have a staff team of about 180 people and we believe in looking after everyone well.  We know that our staff team make the college what it is today and are the key to a successful future.

Oak Grove College has convenient road and rail links with good public transport available.  It is a 15 minute walk from Durrington-on-Sea train station, there is a bus stop just by the entrance, a large car park for those travelling by car and good pedestrian access for those on foot.

Teaching Assistants

We are currently recruiting for additional Teaching Assistants.  Teaching Assistants form an important part of our staff team, working alongside other staff to support pupils with their learning.

We are looking for individuals with some of the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • able to employ a wide variety of communication strategies
  • experienced in providing personal care
  • experienced in supporting people with mental health issues
  • experienced in supporting people with social and emotional barriers to learning
  • able to engage and motivate students
  • flexibility to work across the whole college as required
  • excellent organisational skills
  • able to use initiative and work effectively in a team

Prior experience with students with complex learning needs is preferred but not essential as a programme of support and training will be offered.

Hours:                                      32.5 hours per week 8.30am – 3.30pm; Term time only plus inset days

Salary:                                     WSCC Grade 3 (£9.62 per hour) – temporary contract

Play Leader

We are currently recruiting for maternity cover for one of our Play Leaders.  Play Leaders form an important part of our staff team, enhancing the lunchtime experience for our students to ensure that the social development of all is promoted, alongside a positive attitude to a healthy lifestyle.

We are looking for individuals with some of the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Ability to supervise students during playtime, both indoor and outdoor
  • Ability and experience leading and running playground games and activities
  • Ability to engage with students and promote their social development and self esteem
  • Experience in supporting students giving careful attention to safety and well-being and actively encouraging play
  • Understanding of behaviour issues and strategies to manage them
  • Capacity to work flexibly across range of student settings
  • Effective team working
  • Fluency in English
  • Play/ Sports leaders qualification
  • Ability to work with staff to support with Manual Handling issues

Duties:

  • To be proactive in promoting and engaging in positive interactions with students during the lunchtime supervision period which supports the development of social interaction
  • To work in class to allow TA’s to have a lunch break
  • To supervise students during lunchtime, both indoors and outdoors
  • To serve out and, if necessary, cut up and prepare lunch for students so the students can swallow the food
  • To support and supervise students as they eat
  • To undertake various additional tasks e.g. cleaning students after soiling, helping students change if they get wet or muddy, taking them to a First aider if they have a minor accident
  • To prepare activities for play, getting equipment ready, supervising the activity, encouraging participation, interact with the students and put equipment away at the end of lunchbreak
  • To supervise students during wet play, get out and play games and activities with students, putting activities and games away at the end of lunch break
  • Assist with setting and clearing up of hall for lunch
  • To provide first aid (training will be given)
  • To understand and follow college procedures

A programme of support and training will be offered.  Attendance on some training days would be required.  Prior experience with students with complex learning needs is preferred but not essential as a programme of support and training will be offered.

Start Date:                      2nd September 2021

Hours:                             15 hours per week 10.30am – 1.30pm; Term time only plus inset days

Salary:                             WSCC Grade 3 (£9.62 per hour)

Contract:                         Temporary contract (maternity cover)
