Oak Grove College is a community generic special school providing special education for 260 students with learning difficulties from Year 7 to Year 14. We are immensely proud of our college and our community.  We are committed to providing the very best for young people while they are with us, helping them to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and aspiration to succeed throughout their lives.  We have a staff team of about 180 people and we believe in looking after everyone well.  We know that our staff team make the college what it is today and are the key to a successful future.

Oak Grove College has convenient road and rail links with good public transport available.  It is a 15 minute walk from Durrington-on-Sea train station, there is a bus stop just by the entrance, a large car park for those travelling by car and good pedestrian access for those on foot.

Teaching Assistants

Job Title:          Teaching Assistant

Contract:               32.5 hours per week; Term time only + inset days (39 weeks per year); Temporary until July 2022

Pay Scale:          Grade 3; Points 3-4; £9.62 per hour;

Hours:                   8.30 – 3.30 Monday to Friday

Start Date:           As soon as possible

We are currently recruiting for additional Teaching Assistants.  Teaching Assistants form an important part of our staff team, working alongside other staff to support pupils with their learning.

We are looking for individuals with some of the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • able to employ a wide variety of communication strategies
  • experienced in providing personal care
  • experienced in supporting people with mental health issues
  • experienced in supporting people with social and emotional barriers to learning
  • able to engage and motivate students
  • flexibility to work across the whole college as required
  • excellent organisational skills
  • able to use initiative and work effectively in a team

Prior experience with students with complex learning needs is preferred but not essential as a programme of support and training will be offered.

Applicants who are invited to interview will also be observed completing a practical task.

We are currently recruiting for an additional Pastoral Officer.  Our Pastoral Officers form an important part of our staff team, supporting students and colleagues to give the highest quality holistic support to our young people.  

We are looking for individuals with some of the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • able to establish effective relationships with parents/carers, students and outside agencies
  • experienced in supporting students to access learning, and producing behaviour and intervention plans
  • experienced in supporting people with mental health issues
  • experienced in supporting people with social and emotional barriers to learning
  • able to engage and motivate students
  • ability to supervise students to ensure their safety and positive behaviour
  • flexibility to work across the whole college as required
  • excellent organisational skills
  • able to perform a ‘duty manager’ role
  • able to use initiative and work effectively in a team

Assistant Premises Officer

Job Title:          Assistant Premises Officer

Contract:               37 hours per week; Term time only (39 weeks per year) or 52 weeks per year; Permanent

Pay Scale:          Grade 4; Points 5-6; £10.01 per hour; £19,312 per annum, pro rata

Hours:                   Hours will be split into shifts between 6am and 6.30pm.   Flexibility to unlock and lock the school late evenings/weekends is essential.

Start Date:           As soon as possible

We are looking for a versatile Assistant Premises Officer who is:

  • Looking to work in a college with a positive and inclusive ethos
  • Can demonstrate practical abilities with a proven range of maintenance and DIY skills
  • Hard working, well motivated and able to work on own initiative
  • Ability to use IT systems an advantage

Duties will include:

  • Maintaining clean, safe and secure school premises, which includes buildings and grounds
  • Carrying out cleaning, handyperson activities, routine maintenance and refurbishment, porterage, and minor repairs
  • Some supervision of school cleaning staff
  • Promoting health and safety around the school and carrying out health and safety checks
  • Supervision of and liaison with external contractors and site use
  • Complete school holiday decorating and improvement programme (if year round)

We welcome applications from those with previous caretaking and cleaning experience but this is not essential. A programme of support and training will be offered to develop your skills and understanding of maintenance and health and safety in a special educational college within a supportive environment.   

Applicants who are invited to interview will also be observed completing a practical task.  We fully intend to hold interviews face to face and will provide more information about how this can be conducted safely.  However, if a remote interview is necessary candidates will need to be able to access IT and wi fi: we will support this if required and practical.
