Oak Grove College is a community generic special school providing special education for 260 students with learning difficulties from Year 7 to Year 14. We are immensely proud of our college and our community.  We are committed to providing the very best for young people while they are with us, helping them to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and aspiration to succeed throughout their lives.  We have a staff team of about 180 people and we believe in looking after everyone well.  We know that our staff team make the college what it is today and are the key to a successful future.

Oak Grove College has convenient road and rail links with good public transport available.  It is a 15 minute walk from Durrington-on-Sea train station, there is a bus stop just by the entrance, a large car park for those travelling by car and good pedestrian access for those on foot.

Science Teacher

Job Overview:       Supporting the learning of young people with moderate learning needs

Contract Status:      Full Time Permanent

Pay Scale:           TMS/UPS dependent on applicant; plus SEN Allowance

Start Date:               1st September 2022

We are looking for a teacher who is:

  • Able to deliver great lessons with communication development at their centre
  • Lead a holistic approach to learning for young people in your class
  • Prepared to take a full role in curriculum development and extracurricular activities

  • An enthusiastic science practitioner.

We welcome applications from teachers with excellent special or mainstream experience in primary or secondary sector. The position would particularly suit an exceptional primary teacher able to teach all subjects.  A programme of support and training will be offered to develop your understanding and skills in special educational needs within a supportive environment.   

Applicants who are invited to interview will also be observed working with a class of students to demonstrate how they interact with students and structure learning.  We fully intend to hold interviews face to face and will provide more information about how this can be conducted safely.  However, if a remote interview is necessary candidates will need to be able to access IT and wi fi: we will support this if required and practical.

Job Title:          Teaching Assistant

Contract:               32.5 hours per week; shorter hours considered

Term time only + inset days (39 weeks + 5.4 weeks holiday pay per year)

Temporary until July 2023 and Permanent positions available

Pay Scale:          Grade 3; Points 3-4; £9.79 per hour;

Hours:                   8.30 – 3.30 Monday to Friday

Start Date:           As soon as possible

We are currently recruiting for additional Teaching Assistants.  Teaching Assistants form an important part of our staff team, working together to support pupils with their learning.

We are looking for individuals with some of the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • able to employ a wide variety of communication strategies
  • experienced in providing personal care
  • experienced in supporting people with mental health issues
  • experienced in supporting people with social and emotional barriers to learning
  • able to engage and motivate students
  • flexibility to work across the whole college as required
  • excellent organisational skills
  • able to use initiative and work effectively in a team

Prior experience wtth students with complex learning needs is preferred but not essential as a programme of support and training will be offered.
